Study Abroad

The American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA) offers a six-week summer programs for university students and high school and college teachers of classics and related subjects. Because Athens is hosting the Olympic Games in August 2004, the regular summer program in Greece will not be offered; instead, ASCSA will sponsor a 26-day program (June 9-July 4, 2004) that explores the sites and monuments of ancient and medieval Turkey. Applications must be postmarked no later than January 15, 2004. In 2005 the ASCSA will return to the regular Summer Sessions in Greece. Arcadia Center for Hellenic, Mediterranean and Balkan Studies offers courses in classical, Byzantine and modern Greek studies. This summer two courses will be centered in Greece; “Of Gods and the City” will combine Athens-based seminars with visits to archaeological sites. “On the Trail of Alexander the Great” will be based on the island of Samos and include visits to the Turkish cities of Priene and Miletus. The Austin Peay State University (Tennessee) Study Abroad in Greece program offers a course from May 31 through July 4, 2004 on Greek art and archaeology as well as an intensive introductory course in modern spoken Greek. All participants take both courses while visiting 45 sites on Crete and the Greek mainland; seven semester hours of credit are available through Austin Peay State University.
