The Talmud is a collection of Jewish laws and teachings comprising the Mishnah (a compilation of laws collected by Rabbi Yehuda Hanassi about 200 A.D.) and the Gemara (a commentary on the Mishnah). There are two versions: The Palestinian Talmud, completed in the mid-fifth century A.D. and the Babylonian Talmud, completed in the mid-sixth century A.D.
