The author of more than 30 novels, plays and profiles of biblical figures, Elie Wiesel (“Esau”) received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986.

A professor of New Testament and intertestamental literature, Jerome Murphy-O’Connor (“What Really Happened at Gethsemane?”) has taught at the École Biblique et Archéologique in Jerusalem for 30 years. Thousands of tourists have relied on his careful travel guide, The Holy Land: An Archaeological Guide from Earliest Times to 1700 (Oxford, 1992), to direct them to biblical sites throughout Israel. His many BR articles include “Where Was the Capitol in Roman Jerusalem?” BR 13:06, and “Why Jesus Went Back to Galilee,” BR 12:01.

Emily Walter Sampson (“More Than Any Man Has Ever Done”) recently received her Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate School. She has lectured frequently on Julia Smith and on Asherah, and enjoys playing the harp.
