President of the Ancient Biblical Manuscript Center in Claremont, California, James A. Sanders (“‘Spinning’ the Bible”) is also a professor at the Claremont School of Theology and Claremont Graduate School. His publications include From Sacred Story to Sacred Text (Fortress, 1987). His most recent BR article, cowritten with Astrid Beck, explores the text of the oldest complete Hebrew Bible (“The Leningrad Codex,” BR 13:04).

Herbert W. Basser (“The Jewish Roots of the Transfiguration”) began his career in academics as a Jewish chaplain at the University of Florida at Gainesville before moving on to a similar position at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. “In one day I went from 110 degrees to 30 below,” he says. Now, as a professor of religion at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Basser uses his training in early rabbinic literature to approach New Testament writings. He is the author of Pseudo-rabad: Commentary to Sifre Deuteronomy (Scholars Press, 1994).
