The Brunner Professor Emeritus of Egyptology at the University of Liverpool, Kenneth A. Kitchen (“The Desert Tabernacle”) has written more than 200 articles, reviews and books, including a biography of Ramesses II, Pharaoh Triumphant (Aris & Phillips, 1983). Kitchen has spent years traveling about and recording hieroglyphic inscriptions for his massive 14-volume catalogue of translations and commentary, Ramesside Inscriptions (Blackwell, 1993–).

Michael M. Homan (“The Divine Warrior”) recently received his Ph.D. in ancient history and Hebrew Bible from the University of California, San Diego. He is currently on a fellowship at the W.F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in Jerusalem. Homan has not only researched the Tabernacle but has also built an 18:1 scale model, which he uses in teaching. When explaining the day of atonement, for example, Homan dons priestly garb as he presides over the model, takes two miniature goats and casts the urim and thummim in order to determine which will be the “scapegoat” sent away to atone for Israel’s sins.
