Rudolf Cohen (“Smashing the Idols: Piecing Together an Edomite Shrine in Judah”) serves as deputy director of the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) and co-director of the ‘En Hatzeva excavations. For three decades, Cohen has focused his archaeological activity on the Negev, where he has excavated Roman and Nabatean sites, along with dozens of desert fortresses—some thought to be from the time of Solomon. His numerous contributions to BAR include “Did I Excavate Kadesh-Barnea?” BAR 07:03, and “The Marvelous Mosaics of Kissufim,” BAR 06:01.

District archaeologist of the IAA for the central Negev and the Arava, Yigal Yisrael (“Smashing the Idols”) has co-directed excavations at ‘En Hatzeva since 1992. He has conducted several surveys in southern Israel, including one of Ashkelon, published in Excavations and Surveys in Israel 13 (1995).
