Strata: Update for Digs 2006

Here are two dig opportunities for volunteers in addition to those listed in our January/February issue. Visit the BAS Web site (www.biblicalarchaeology.org) to view a complete listing of digs.

Tel Gezer

25 miles northwest of Jerusalem, southeast of Ben-Gurion airport

2006 Season: June 4–July 7 (minimum stay of 2 weeks); Application deadline is April 1.

Dates of site Occupation: Chalcolithic through Byzantine period

Important Finds: Middle Bronze Age gate, “High Place,” “Solomonic Gate,” water system, Gezer calendar, cuneiform tablets

Goals for 2006: Expose Iron Age remains near the fortifications west of Palace 10000 and south of Field III, adjacent to the “Solomonic Gate.”

Room & Board: $1650 for full season ($1500 for students of consortium schools)

Accommodations: Kibbutz Revadim; bathroom in each unit, A/C, pool

Credits/Tuition/Institutions: Two 3-unit courses available through the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary
