September 490 B.C. The Battle of Marathon. A small Greek force (made up mostly of Athenians) utterly defeated the great Persian army of Darius I.
September 8, 15 B.C. Since the eighth century, the traditional date of the birth of Mary, mother of Jesus.
September 23, 63 B.C. The birth of Gaius Octavianus, Julius Caesar’s great-nephew and heir to his throne by adoption, who would become Augustus, the first Roman emperor.
October 23, 1909 Birth of Avraham Biran, born in Galilee under the Ottoman empire. This will be his 97th birthday. Happy birthday, Avraham!
October 23, 4004 B.C. The date of the creation of the world according to the Ussher-Lightfoot calendar.
