Strata: BAS Honored in Jerusalem

In June 2006, the name of the Biblical Archaeology Society was inscribed on the Wall of Life at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The ceremony took place on the Mount Scopus campus, overlooking the Old City, and was presided over by the university president, Menachem Magidor, shown here chatting with BAR Editor Hershel Shanks. The award was made in gratitude for BAS’s contributions to the university’s many archaeological projects. Over the years BAS has contributed more than $100,000 to the Hebrew University.
In accepting the award, Shanks stressed that it should really be given to the many special Biblical Archaeology Society contributors for whom the Society served as a conduit.
