Prizes Offered for ASOR Papers
The Biblical Archaeology Society is now accepting nominations for the Hershel Shanks Prizes for the best academic papers delivered at the annual meeting of the American Schools of Oriental Research (ASOR). The prizes will be given in five categories:
1. Archaeology Related to the Hebrew Bible
2. Archaeology Related to the New Testament
3. Archaeology Related to Patristic Literature and Early Christianity
4. Archaeology Related to the Talmud and Late Antique Judaism
5. Archaeology in Israel
Each prize carries with it an honorarium of $1,000. ASOR is the premier organization of professional scholars of archaeology in the Near East and the Mediterranean. Its annual meeting is held in mid-November in a different U.S. city each year. The 2006 meeting was in Washington, D.C.
Anyone wishing to nominate a paper from the 2006 meeting (the presenter or anyone else) must send a copy to the Biblical Archaeology Society by January 31, 2007. Please include a designation of the category into which the paper is being entered. Winners will be announced in BAR.
