Boaz Zissu (“Village Razed, Rebel Beheaded,”) is a lecturer in the Martin (Szusz) Department of Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology at Bar-Ilan University. One of his specialties is the rural areas of Judea during the Second Temple, Mishnah and Talmud periods. He is currently working on the publication of the excavations (1999–2001 Seasons) at Horvat ‘Ethri in the Judean Shephelah.

Werner Eck (“Hadrian’s Hard-Won Victory,”) is professor of ancient history at the University of Cologne in Germany. He specializes in the history of the Roman empire, especially the Imperial period. He is a member of the team that compiled the Corpus Inscriptionum Iudaeae/Palaestinae (CIIP). He is also coeditor of the Zeitschrift für Papyrologie und Epigraphik.
