March 21, 630 A.D. The Byzantine emperor Heraclius restores the True Cross to Jerusalem. The Cross, which was believed to be the actual wooden cross upon which Jesus was crucified, had been captured by the Sassanid Persians during their sack of Jerusalem in 614.
