Mohammad Najjar and Thomas E. Levy (“Condemned to the Mines,”) are codirectors of the Edom Lowlands Regional Archaeology Project at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Najjar was director of excavations at the Department of Antiquities of Jordan and is head (in Jordan) of “Discover Islamic Art,” a project sponsored by Euromed Heritage to create a virtual museum of Islamic art on the Internet. Levy is professor of anthropology and Judaic studies at UCSD, where he holds the Norma Kershaw Endowed Chair in the Archaeology of Ancient Israel and the Neighboring Lands. He specializes in the archaeology of the Levant and has done fieldwork in Jordan since 1997.

Rami Arav (“Excarnation: Food for Vultures,”) is professor of religion and philosophy at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and codirector of the excavation at Bethsaida north of the Sea of Galilee. He also led the John and Carol Merrill expedition to the Cave of Letters in the Judean cliffs west of the Dead Sea.
