March 25, 1305 A.D. The Scrovegni Chapel (or Arena Chapel) in Padua, Italy, is dedicated in commemoration of the Feast of the Annunciation, when Mary was told she would bear the Son of God. The chapel’s walls and ceilings were decorated by an extensive fresco cycle, painted by Giotto di Bondone, celebrating the life of the Virgin and the life of Christ.
