September 37 A.D. Roman Emperor Caligula renamed the month of September “Germanicus,” after his father, but the change was short-lived. After his assassination in 41, the month reverted back to the name “September,” which is derived from the Latin septem, meaning “seven.” It was the seventh month in the Roman calendar.
