January 3, 106 B.C.E. Famed Roman orator Cicero was born in Arpinum in central Italy. Cicero assumed many roles during life: politician, lawyer, consul, philosopher and more. His influential work De Officiis criticized the dictatorship of Julius Caesar and outlined what Cicero considered the ideal way to live and behave in society.
