October 31, 1517 C.E. Martin Luther nailed his famous Ninety-Five Theses, which became the foundation of the Protestant Reformation, to the door of the Castle Church of Wittenberg, Germany. He also sent a copy to his superior, the Bishop of Brandenburg, and to the Archbishop Albert of Mainz and Madgeburg, who had been selling indulgences.
