The date of the Book of Jonah is disputed: Some claim that it is not the work of the eighth- century prophet mentioned in 2 Kings. Most would date the composition of the book to the sixth to fourth century B.C.E. Yet in the Bible’s own terms—presented in the Book of Jonah and in 2 Kings—Jonah is clearly an eighth-century B.C.E. prophet.
