Koester Named First Mowinckel Lecturer

Helmut Koester, of Harvard University’s Divinity School, will deliver the first Mowinckel Lecture in Oslo next spring. Established in honor of Old Testament scholar Sigmund Mowinckel, the annual lecture will be given at the University of Oslo, where Mowinckel taught for 40 years.
Koester, professor of New Testament studies at Harvard, has extensively studied the second-century developments of the Gospels and of other Christian traditions. He is the author of Introduction to the New Testament (Fortress Press, 1982), which won a 1984 BAS Publication Award.
Mowinckel, whose 100th birthday was marked by a one-day symposium in Oslo last year, was influential in introducing form-criticism into Old Testament study. He died in 1965 at age 81.

In the Spring issue of Bible Review, in First Glance, we referred to Jane Dillenberger as professor emeritus, a title held by her distinguished husband, John Dillenberger. Mrs. Dillenberger’s title is professor emerita.
