November 20, 543 A.D. The Nea Church in Jerusalem is consecrated with Cyril of Scythopolis, a Christian monk and historian, present. Construction of this monumental edifice was begun by Elias, patriarch of Jerusalem from 494 to 516 A.D., and completed under Justinian’s reign. The Madaba map features it prominently.
