Did King David do battle with the Edomites? The Bible says he did. It would be unlikely, however, if Edom was not yet a sufficiently complex society to organize and field an army, if Edom was just some nomadic Bedouin tribes roaming around looking for pastures and water for their sheep and goats.

Ruth Amiran, one of the founders of Israeli archaeology, passed away in Jerusalem in December 2005.
Ruth was born in Yavneel, in Ottoman Palestine, in 1914 and received her M.A. in archaeology from The Hebrew University in 1939.

Hayim Tadmor, leading Assyriologist and historian of the ancient Near East, passed away at the age of 82 in Jerusalem on December 11, 2005.
