“Ibni” is similar in derivation to “Jabin,” the name of the Biblical king who ruled over Hazor about 500 years later, in the days of Joshua (Joshua 11:1). The name may have been passed down by Hazor’s rulers for hundreds of years. See “Babylonian Tablet Confirms Biblical Name,” BAR 20:05.

That not only stone but wood was often reused in later buildings is a phenomenon with which archaeologists are familiar: One famous example is the wooden beams of the Byzantine period that were used in the ceiling of buildings of the Islamic period in Jerusalem.
