I have used the translation of the King James Version. Banot is also translated “daughters” in the Revised Standard Version, Jerusalem Bible and the New American Standard Bible. It is rendered as ‘villages’ by the New International Version. This interpretation, while losing something of the poetry of the traditional rendering, is, as we shall see, more accurate.

In other words, if on a piano we wanted to “clear” the interval of F and B, we would simply lower the F string one-half-step to E.

On a piano on which you could use the black keys, the half-steps in any major scale will always fall between the third and fourth notes and the seventh and eighth notes. This would be true whether you started your scale on C or D or any other note.
